Ben Duckett scored a brilliant 167 runs and Liam Dawson took four wickets to help England secure a 55-run win against Sri Lanka in a high-scoring tri-series match in Lahore.
Match Details
England posted a total of 386 runs, which is the highest-ever one-day international total at the Gaddafi Stadium. Duckett reached his century off 89 deliveries and went past his previous career-best score of 165 against Australia at the same venue last year. Tom Banton contributed 74 runs as the opening pair put on 163 runs from 25 overs before Banton was bowled by Dasun Shanaka. Captain Harry Brook promoted himself to bat at number three and scored 44 runs, while Asitha Fernando took two wickets for 63 runs for Sri Lanka.
The Chase
Sri Lanka put up a strong fight in their chase of 387 runs, driven by Pavan Rathnayake who scored 118 runs. Sri Lanka needed 87 runs from the last 10 overs with five wickets remaining, but Dawson dismissed Rathnayake in his final over, finishing with figures of four wickets for 49 runs. The last five wickets fell quickly as England bowled out Sri Lanka to end the tour with a win, having already missed out on Saturday's final against Pakistan.
Context
Touring cricket teams often use multi-team tri-series matches to test different squad combinations and give players experience in foreign conditions ahead of upcoming major tours. This particular series served as preparation before England travels next to play against Australia.
