The Railway Board has approved a new Vande Bharat Express train connecting Yesvantpur and Madgaon. BEML developed the semi-high-speed train using technology from the Chennai-based Integral Coach Factory.
Train Details And Stops
Train numbers 26655 and 26656 will run on this route and take about 13 hours and 20 minutes. The train will travel via Mangaluru Junction and stop at 12 stations including Shravanabelagola, Hassan, Sakleshpur, Subrahmanya Road, Kabaka Puttur, Udupi, Kundapura, Mookambika Road Byndoor, Murdeshwar, Gokarna Road, and Karwar. Train 26655 leaves Yesvantpur at 07:35 and reaches Madgaon at 20:55, running six days a week except Wednesdays. Train 26656 leaves Madgaon at 08:20 and arrives in Yesvantpur at 21:15, running six days a week except Thursdays. The launch of this new service means the existing Madgaon-Mangaluru Central Vande Bharat Express will be discontinued.
Context
Rail travel between Karnataka and Goa is set to become faster and cleaner following the completion of the Bengaluru-Mangaluru rail route electrification in December 2025. Upgrades like overhead wires and switching stations now allow electric locomotives and Vande Bharat trains to safely navigate difficult ghat sections.
