The Medal Win

Prince Noble and Manu Francis won India's first sailing silver medal in the Men's Skiff 49er Dinghy event at the Asian Games. Competing for the Army Yachting Node, the pair sailed their final four races through sudden winds gusting up to 15 knots. After leading the fleet across five races in calmer conditions on Wednesday, they climbed from fourth to second place in a tight finish on Thursday.

Personal Journey

Prince faced personal tragedy in 2018 when his father, Noble KG, died in the Kerala floods while Prince was away at a training camp in Germany. Growing up near Kochi, Prince and his cousin Manu were introduced to sailing through an accidental entry into a local talent test. After initial training in Bhopal, where Prince struggled with inland waters, both joined the Army in Mumbai to access marine training facilities and high-end equipment.

Context

Sailing is a demanding sport that requires precise coordination, technical knowledge, and expensive equipment like high-performance boats and specialized sails. The sport relies heavily on wind patterns, water conditions, and seamless teamwork between the helm and crew members.
