Several vehicles were set on fire in Pulivendula town just hours before municipal elections started on Saturday morning. The attack took place around midnight near an orchard owned by Madhusudhan Reddy. Three cars, ten motorcycles and a tractor were completely burned down in the fire. Police stated that it was not immediately clear who carried out the act.
Election Day Tension
Meanwhile, voting began briskly across various wards in the town, with people standing in queues from 7 am. Workers from the TDP and YSRCP pushed and shoved each other in several wards, creating mild tension. Police chased away the fighting party workers in wards like Islampuram to bring the groups under control. The 11th and 12th wards saw heavy stone pelting by miscreants who tried to scare away voters. YSRCP workers later accused the police of chasing away their voters.
Context
Municipal elections in local towns often see high political rivalry between major regional parties like the TDP and YSRCP. Localized clashes and security challenges are common during polling days in politically sensitive areas.
