UPDATE - follow-up to INDIA Bloc to hold mega rally against CEC, SIR today; leaders, supporters begin arriving in Delhi | LIVE: The INDIA opposition bloc is holding a mega rally at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan to protest alleged electoral irregularities and demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Supporters and leaders from multiple states have gathered at the venue, featuring 'Chalo Delhi' and 'Vote Bachaao, Desh Bachaao' posters alongside heavy security deployment including over 3,000 police officers and 10,000 paramilitary personnel expecting a footfall of around 50,000.
Charges and Protests
Opposition leaders levelled six charges against CEC Gyanesh Kumar, including conspiring with the BJP to steal elections, deleting 13.2 crore voters through the special intensive revision of voter lists, and acting at the behest of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav alleged that limits of injustice had been crossed, while Congress leader Rahul Gandhi described the gathering as a movement to defend democracy. The Indian Youth Congress announced participants would wear white clothes resembling ghosts to symbolise voters allegedly removed from rolls. Trinamool Congress leader Sagarika Ghose called for formal proceedings during the Winter Session to remove Mr. Kumar, and AICC general secretary K.C. Venugopal termed the rally a stern warning to top leaders.
Counter Rallies
Meanwhile, the ruling BJP launched counter-protests across the region. BJP national president Nitin Nabin led a 'Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao' march in Rohtak, Haryana, while former Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan participated in a similar padyatra in Faridabad. Union Minister Sardar Hardeep Singh Puri also led a march in West Delhi alongside Sikh community members from Hari Nagar DTC Bus Depot to Tilak Nagar Metro Station to protest against the Congress party.
Context
Protest demonstrations at designated public grounds in New Delhi are subject to strict local security arrangements and police monitoring, particularly when large crowds gather for major political mobilizations. Major political parties frequently use counter-rallies and regional marches to contest opposition narratives and project ideological opposition during high-stakes national disputes.

Opposition leaders have signaled plans to push for formal removal proceedings against the CEC during the upcoming Winter Session of Parliament, while the ruling party continues its nationwide counter-mobilizations to defend the election commission's administration.
