Representative image · PexelsHollywood actor Nicolas Cage has strongly criticized the modern Marvel Cinematic Universe, comparing the big-budget franchise to a glorified professional wrestling show. Cage shared his thoughts at Fan Expo Dallas, noting that while he liked the early character-focused stories, the films now rely too much on big action battles.
Actor's Journey
Cage, 62, said that watching talented actors wear strange costumes and prepare for endless fight scenes reminds him of the WWE. The Oscar winner has a history with comic book projects, having played Johnny Blaze in the 2007 film Ghost Rider and its 2012 sequel. He also starred in the Sony Marvel series Spider-Noir, which recently ended after its first season of eight episodes.
Context
The Marvel Cinematic Universe started in 2008 with the release of Iron Man and grew into a massive interconnected series of films and television shows. Meanwhile, the Ghost Rider character is returning to the screen with actor Ryan Gosling taking on the role in a new film directed by Shawn Levy, which is set to hit theaters on July 28, 2028.
