Representative image · PexelsAurobindo Pharma subsidiary Acrotech Biopharma has launched an ointment called Adquey in the U.S. market for treating mild-to-moderate atopic dermatitis. The product uses difamilast 1% and is a non-steroidal treatment applied directly to the skin.
Market Details
The ointment will compete in a market estimated to be around $1.3 billion, according to figures from IQVIA MAT for the 12-month period ending in July 2026. Otsuka Pharmaceutical discovered and developed the product, and then licensed it to Acrotech Biopharma to sell in the U.S. This launch marks Acrotech's first step into the American dermatology sector. The company set up a dedicated dermatology business unit to support this rollout and its long-term goals in skin care. Ashish Anvekar, President of Acrotech Biopharma, said the launch is a key milestone that brings a different treatment option to patients with atopic dermatitis.
Context
Atopic dermatitis is a common long-term skin condition that causes dry, itchy, and inflamed patches. Pharmaceutical companies often license specialized drugs from their original developers to enter new medical markets without having to build a treatment from scratch.
