Ti West’s upcoming movie “Ebenezer”, a dark version of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol starring Johnny Depp as the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge, is slated for theatrical release on 13 November 2026.

Plot

The trailer shows a rich but cruel Scrooge who puts money above all else. On Christmas Eve he is visited by his former business partner Jacob Marley, played by Ian McKellen, who warns him that he must change or suffer a terrible destiny. Marley’s warning is followed by appearances of the three Christmas spirits – Past, Present and Yet to Come – who make him relive old memories, examine his current actions and glimpse a bleak future.

Cast

Alongside Depp, the film features Rupert Grint as the humble clerk Bob Cratchit, Sam Claflin as Scrooge’s optimistic brother‑in‑law Fred, Andrea Riseborough as the Ghost of Christmas Past and Tramell Tillman as the Ghost of Christmas Present.

Reception

Viewers who have seen the trailer posted enthusiastic comments, praising Depp’s performance and the horror‑tinged take on the classic tale. One fan said the movie feels true to Dickens while adding genuine scares.

Context

Dark reinterpretations of classic literature have become popular in recent years, offering fresh angles for familiar stories. “Ebenezer” follows this trend by mixing gothic mood with the moral lessons of the original novella.
