Forests, wetlands, grasslands and coastal habitats of Andhra Pradesh are taking centre stage at Hawa Mahal in Visakhapatnam for a two-day wildlife photography exhibition. The event runs on October 3 and 4 as part of World Wildlife Week 2026, remaining open from 10 am to 8 pm. Twenty-three photographers from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are showcasing 150 photographs that document the varied biodiversity and wildlife of the region.
Organisers and Field Equipment
The exhibition is organised by WildVizag in collaboration with the Andhra Pradesh Forest Department and the Nagarjunasagar Srisailam Tiger Reserve team. The display goes beyond photographs to feature actual field equipment used by forest personnel, including surveillance cameras, drones, camera traps, tranquilisers and other specialized gadgets. A dedicated section covers various wildlife sanctuaries to explain their ecological importance and the species living there, while a souvenir stall offers caps and T-shirts.
Snake Diversity Project
Individual displays include documentary filmmaker Arunkumar Thyadi's Project Black, which focuses on snakes. The project documents 18 snake species found in Andhra Pradesh, ranging from the king cobra to the Brahminy blind snake. The goal is to help visitors understand the protected areas behind the images and learn about ongoing conservation work and wildlife monitoring.
Context
Wildlife exhibitions and World Wildlife Week events are commonly held across India to build public support for environmental protection and forest conservation. Such public outreach programs help bridge the gap between remote forest departments and city residents by showing the realities of field monitoring and animal tracking.
