Performance And Design
The motorcycle runs on a new 204cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine with a DOHC 4V per cylinder head. This engine puts out 26.23 bhp of peak power at 10,000 RPM and 19.1 Nm of peak torque at 8,000 RPM, paired with a six-speed gearbox, a slipper clutch, and a bi-directional quickshifter depending on the variant chosen. The bike weighs 149 kg in standard form and 150 kg for the R2 M variant, giving it a power-to-weight ratio of 176.04 bhp per tonne, which beats both the Yamaha R15 at 128.36 bhp per tonne and the KTM RC 200 at 154.06 bhp per tonne.
Ride And Handling
The R2 features an all-new steel tube diamond frame, unique styling, and a seat height of 810 mm. During media test rides at the Madras International Circuit in Chennai, the bike showed high cornering clearance, dual-channel ABS, traction control, and MRF tires. Adjustable footpegs, brake levers, and clutch levers come equipped on the machine, while the suspension offers preload adjustability at both ends.
Context
Supersport motorcycles like the Yamaha R2 are built primarily for speed, agility, and handling performance rather than long-distance touring comfort. Track-focused bikes often trade away relaxed riding postures for aggressive, committed ergonomics to help riders shift their weight easily around sharp corners.
