Hero MotoCorp sold 7,66,348 total units in September 2026, marking an 11.51 percent increase compared to 6,87,220 units in the same month last year. Total sales also rose 34.83 percent over August, building strong momentum ahead of the festive season. Both motorcycles and scooters contributed to the growth, though scooters expanded at a much faster pace.
Domestic Growth and Exports
Domestic sales grew 14.12 percent year-on-year to reach 7,39,018 units, making up 96.43 percent of the company's total September volume and growing 36.27 percent compared to August. This domestic rise made up for a drop in exports, which fell 31.05 percent from last year to 27,330 units. Even so, overseas shipments improved by 4.74 percent over August, while the company also hit a milestone of reaching one million customers in Latin America during the month.
Quarterly and Half-Year Performance
For the July to September quarter, total sales reached 18,68,162 units, up 10.50 percent from a year ago. Scooter sales jumped 47.68 percent during these three months, easily beating the 6.55 percent growth in motorcycles. For the first half of the financial year spanning April to September 2026, total sales hit 35,45,475 units with 15.95 percent growth. Motorcycle sales rose 11.08 percent to 31,12,665 units in this half-year period, while scooters surged 69.39 percent to 4,32,810 units.
Scooter Portfolio Momentum
Combined scooter sales hit 1,00,354 units in September, shooting up 64.51 percent from last year. Scooters made up only 13.10 percent of total volumes but added nearly as many extra units as motorcycles to the annual sales jump. Newer models like the VIDA electric range, the Xoom in 110cc, 125cc, and 160cc options, and the updated Destini have driven this expansion across electric, sporty, and family segments.
Context
Auto companies in India often see a sharp rise in sales during the months leading up to major autumn festivals like Dussehra and Diwali as consumer demand picks up. Hero MotoCorp has traditionally been known as a leader in motorcycles, making its recent push into the scooter segment an important shift for capturing broader market share.
