Vikas Bahl has wrapped filming in the UK for his upcoming musical drama “Bolo Bolo Bolo.” The film follows a coming‑of‑age story set in early‑1990s Britain, when young British musicians mixed Punjabi beats with modern, bass‑heavy production. Jimmy Shergill, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Mona Singh and Alizeh lead the ensemble cast. Katha Studios produces the movie alongside Good Co, Fusion Flicks and Monk Films, with a theatrical release planned for 2027. The narrative shows creators working from garages, unlicensed radio stations and fringe venues, building a sound far from the mainstream circuit. Alongside the music, the plot explores family ties, friendship, identity and the search for belonging amid Britain’s shifting cultural landscape. Shibasish Sarkar, founder of Katha Studios, said the project captures a unique cultural movement that united music and a generation finding its voice, and expressed excitement for the 2027 debut. Bahl added that the 1990s Punjabi scene in Britain was “full of energy, rebellion and an incredible spirit of self‑expression,” and that the film centers on music, identity and belonging. The soundtrack draws from the wide range of sounds that defined the British Punjabi scene of that decade. ## Context The 1990s marked a period when British Asian youth began blending traditional Punjabi rhythms with contemporary club styles, creating a distinct sound that reshaped the UK’s musical landscape.
