Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay visited Pudukottai on Monday for the first time since taking office, handing out government assistance worth ₹62.73 crore to 13,676 people in the district.

Projects and Venue Shift

During the event at the District Collectorate annexe building, Mr. Vijay opened 44 finished projects valued at ₹68.31 crore and started 70 upcoming initiatives by laying their foundation stones. Organisers moved the venue late on Sunday from the District Armed Reserve grounds to the Collectorate premises, where staff prepared the space quickly. The Chief Minister did not speak to the crowd at this function. Earlier in the day, he landed at Tiruchi International Airport on a special flight from Chennai and travelled to Pudukottai by road, greeted by supporters along the 50-kilometre national highway.

Bus Stand Inspection

After accepting petitions from some citizens and inspecting displayed farming equipment, Mr. Vijay rode in his custom vehicle to open the newly rebuilt local bus facility. The modernised bus station cost ₹23.25 crore after the old structures were torn down. Built across 20,077 square metres by the Municipal Administration and Water Supply department, the station features 60 bus bays, 74 shops, two eateries, a passenger hall, and restrooms. Additional amenities include a police control room, a mother feeding room, and a water purification plant. Other launched facilities included a knowledge centre in Alangudi town panchayat and a seed godown in Vamban.

Context

Chief ministerial visits to regional districts often combine welfare distribution with the inauguration of local infrastructure projects to drive regional development. Large public turnouts along travel routes are common during such high-profile political tours across Tamil Nadu.
