India surged to fifth place on Day 15 of the 2026 Asian Games after adding eight gold medals to finish the day with a total of 18, overtaking Thailand on the leaderboard. Archer Kumkum Anil Mohod clinched a historic gold in the women's individual recurve and secured a quota spot for the Los Angeles Olympics. Golfer Pranavi Urs won gold in the individual event while the Indian women’s golf team took silver. The women’s hockey squad ended a 44‑year wait by capturing its first gold since 1982. In quick succession, wrestler Sujeet Kalkal and boxer Ankush Panghal each won gold in their bouts, bringing the day’s tally to the 14th and 15th golds of the Games for India. Earlier, the women’s recurve team earned a first‑ever gold by defeating South Korea, and boxers Lovlina Borgohain and Parveen Hooda added golds in the 75 kg and 65 kg categories respectively. The day’s successes raised India’s medal count to 79 (18 gold, 26 silver, 35 bronze). Other Indian medalists included Mirabai Chanu (silver, weightlifting 49 kg), Roshibina Devi (silver, 60 kg sanda), and several bronze finishes in badminton, soft tennis, rowing, mixed doubles, traditional MMA and other events. ## Context The Asian Games medal table is dominated by China, Japan and South Korea, with India now positioned to challenge Uzbekistan for a top‑four finish as the Games near their end.
