Tamil Nadu is recording roughly 200 dengue cases every day, according to the Directorate of Public Health and Preventive Medicine. Officials state that the caseload is steady and has not reached outbreak levels. New infections are appearing in Chennai, nearby districts like Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram, and major cities including Coimbatore and Madurai.

Official Response and Testing

Director of Public Health and Preventive Medicine A. Somasundaram stated that case numbers are not doubling or tripling as seen during typical outbreaks. Health staff have received instructions to increase testing to improve surveillance and spot small clusters early. The state currently has over 4,500 government and private laboratories handling sample testing.

Prevention and Field Work

About 25,000 Domestic Breeding Checkers are deployed across the state to check for mosquito breeding sites, with 20 workers assigned to each block. Authorities note that the number of detected breeding pools and overall mosquito density are starting to drop due to source reduction work. District Health Officers also attend daily video meetings to review case trends, fever management, and patient discharge policies.

Context

Monsoon seasons often bring a rise in vector-borne illnesses across India due to stagnant rainwater collecting in household containers and outdoor items. Public health departments routinely increase surveillance and field checks during these months to control mosquito populations before they spread further.
