The Telangana government launched a common travel pass on Friday for Hyderabad Metro Rail and Telangana State Road Transport Corporation services. The daily pass costs 400 rupees while the monthly pass costs 8,500 rupees and is valid for 30 calendar days. Commuters must pay a refundable deposit of 100 rupees to get the card. The cards are available for purchase at Metro Rail stations and online.
Pass Details
The monthly pass works on all RTC bus categories within Outer Ring Road limits except Pushpak airport buses. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar launched the pass at Praja Bhavan in Hyderabad alongside Minorities Affairs Minister Mohd Azharuddin and top officials. Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju noted that about 30 lakh people travel by buses and five lakh use the Metro every day in the city.
Context
Public transport systems in large cities often introduce unified cards to help passengers switch easily between different modes of travel like buses and trains without buying separate tickets. This specific launch treats the setup as a pilot project where officials plan to make changes based on how people use it.
