Representative image · PexelsIndian stock markets saw a sharp drop during the short trading week, with benchmark indices falling heavily across all four trading sessions. The Nifty 50 index dropped by 3.10 percent, while the Sensex fell by nearly 2,000 points. Major sectors faced heavy profit-booking, led by consumer and auto stocks. Consumer stocks dropped 6.15 percent, while auto stocks fell 5.85 percent.
Market Outlook
Prabhudas Lilladher technical research expert Vaishali Parekh said the market bias has weakened significantly following the recent crash. The Nifty 50 index touched levels near the 22,180 zone before closing just above the 22,400 zone. Parekh stated that the index has a crucial support level at 21,800, and a decisive break below this mark could cause more selling pressure. The market needs to stay above the 23,000 zone for a true revival.
Stock Picks
For trading on Monday, Parekh recommended three specific stock purchases. Investors were advised to buy HDFC Bank at ₹721 with a target of ₹745 and a stop-loss of ₹710. NRB Bearings is recommended at a buy price of ₹540, a target of ₹560, and a stop-loss of ₹530. Lalithaa Jewellery Mart completes the list with a recommended buy price of ₹385, a target of ₹420, and a stop-loss of ₹375.
Context
Stock market corrections often happen when investors decide to lock in profits after a period of high growth, leading to sudden selling pressure across major sectors. Technical experts use chart patterns like support levels and trading candles to judge whether a market trend is likely to continue downward or bounce back.
