A Manchester court heard that a woman's life changed forever in October 2025 when police arrived at her door to reveal her husband had been drugging and raping her for twenty years. Manchester Minshull Street crown court was told the husband filmed and photographed the abuse, sharing the material online with other men. Nine men are currently on trial, while the husband and four others have already pleaded guilty to various charges.
The Discovery
Undercover journalists on the messaging app Telegram uncovered the online activity in October 2025, finding messages and images about drugging a wife and inviting strangers to assault her. Police traced the address to a man in the Stockport area and searched his home. A seized Samsung Galaxy phone contained over a million photos and videos dating back to 2004, documenting decades of abuse created by the husband and others.
Details of the Offending
The court heard the husband used alcohol and a mix of drugs to put his wife into a deep sleep without her knowledge. He eventually began inviting other men to their home while she lay unconscious. Louise Oakley KC, prosecuting, stated that the couple had an otherwise uneventful marriage and the wife had no idea the abuse was taking place.
Context
This case shares similarities with recent high-profile European cases where hidden abuse within a marriage was exposed through digital evidence and online chat groups. Investigators frequently use seized digital devices and cloud storage to uncover networks of individuals sharing illicit material.
