A major fire broke out at the Residue Upgradation Facility of the HPCL Visakh Refinery in Visakhapatnam on Monday night. Firefighters deployed high-pressure water monitors to contain the blaze, which sent a massive smoke plume into the sky above the port city. Officials confirmed that there were no casualties, although the facility suffered significant structural damage. Vizag Police Commissioner Shankabrata Baghci verified that no lives were lost in the incident. The exact cause of the accident remains unconfirmed while the oil marketing company looks into the matter. ## Context Industrial facilities like oil refineries process millions of metric tonnes of petroleum products annually, making rapid fire response systems vital for safety. Even though authorities managed to prevent any loss of life during this accident, such large-scale blazes highlight the constant risks involved in heavy industrial operations.
