Shares of VRL Logistics jumped over fourteen percent to reach a new yearly high of three hundred nineteen rupees after the firm posted strong financial results for the second quarter. The stock traded roughly forty percent higher than its lowest point of the past year recorded in June.
Financial Growth
Profit after tax more than doubled to one hundred three crore rupees for the quarter ending in September, compared to fifty crore rupees during the same period last year. Operating revenue grew by more than twenty percent to reach nine hundred sixty-two crore rupees. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation rose nearly forty-six percent to two hundred twenty-one crore rupees, while the operating margin expanded to twenty-three percent. Business growth was driven by higher freight rates, increased shipping volumes, and ongoing expansion of the delivery network.
Share Buyback
Investor attention was also drawn to a recent share buyback plan approved by the board with a total budget of two hundred eighty crore rupees. The buyback allowed eligible shareholders to offer up to five percent of the total equity capital back to the firm at a fixed price of three hundred twenty rupees per share.
Context
Transport and logistics firms often see improved earnings when shipping volumes rise alongside better pricing power. Share buybacks are corporate actions where a company buys back its own stock from the open market or through tender offers, which reduces the total number of shares available.
