Drugmaker Granules India has reported a 39 percent year-on-year jump in its consolidated net profit to 181.8 crore rupees for the September quarter. According to The Hindu - Business, the profit came on a 20 percent year-on-year increase in revenue from operations, which reached 1,559.9 crore rupees. Sequentially, however, the growth was subdued, as the company had posted a net profit of 179.9 crore rupees and a revenue of 1,476.7 crore rupees in the June quarter.

Management Commentary

Chairman and Managing Director Krishna Prasad Chigurupati stated that quarterly revenue crossed 1,500 crore rupees in the second quarter of the 2026-27 fiscal year with an EBITDA of 338 crore rupees. This performance came despite higher input and logistics costs caused by tensions in West Asia. He noted that these cost pressures are expected to persist and the company will work with customers to manage them with a lag. Mr. Chigurupati highlighted that Granules is well positioned in its transition towards complex generics and peptide contract development and manufacturing operations, backed by 828 crore rupees in net cash for investments in research, manufacturing, and quality.

Regulatory Updates

Addressing the recent United States Food and Drug Administration inspection of the finished dosage facility in Gagillapur, Hyderabad, the management said the inspection progressed constructively. The regulator issued 11 observations, and the company believes these can be addressed through formal responses along with corrective and preventive actions. On the stock market, Granules shares closed 2.38 percent higher at 819.55 rupees apiece on the Bombay Stock Exchange on Monday.

Context

Pharmaceutical companies often face regulatory inspections and supply chain cost pressures that require careful navigation. Maintaining strong cash reserves helps drugmakers invest in research and development for complex medical products.
