Reported by Faizan Khan (Staff Writer) · The Hindu - National ·
Tejas Patil recorded the fastest finish among Belagavi participants at the Ironman 70.3 held in Goa on November 1, completing the race in 6 hours, 20 minutes and 8 seconds. The event saw several athletes from Belagavi cross the finish line. Multiple‑time Ironman finisher Santosh Shanbhag took part in the individual race, as did fellow veteran Mayura Shivalikar. Other Belagavi runners joined relay teams, including Parashram Gore, Rahul A. M., Pruthviraj Pawardesai, Balchandra Dori, Akshay Siddannavar, Netra Sutar, Devi Chandrasekhar and Priya Krishna. Dr. Sreedevi Warrier was photographed at the venue, highlighting local medical support for the athletes. In total, eleven athletes from Belagavi successfully completed the race. The Ironman 70.3 combines a 1.9‑km swim, a 90‑km bike ride and a 21.1‑km run, testing endurance across three disciplines. Belagavi’s representation underscores the city’s growing interest in long‑distance triathlon events. ## Context The half‑Ironman format is popular worldwide for athletes seeking a challenging yet shorter alternative to the full Ironman, and completion times around six hours are considered strong performances for non‑professional competitors.
