Amit Shah Leads Two‑Kilometre Padayatra in Hyderabad to Counter Congress Claims
Reported by Arjun Sethi (Fact-Checker) · The Hindu - National ·
Union Home Minister Amit Shah walked a nearly two‑kilometre padayatra in Hyderabad on Monday, marking the start of the “Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy” drive. The march began at the Babu Jagjivan Ram statue in Basheerbagh and ended at the Mozamjahi Market junction, covering the route under the slogan “Let us protect democracy and put an end to anarchy.”
Reaction
BJP Telangana State President N. Ramchander Rao thanked the large crowd of citizens and party workers who joined the foot march, describing their enthusiasm as a sign of strong support. He accused the Congress party and its INDIA alliance of spreading “malicious propaganda” and “blatant lies” against the Modi‑led central government and constitutional institutions. Rao also claimed the opposition was trying to “deceive and mislead the public” with false narratives about the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, calling the alleged campaign “toxic conspiracies.” He urged BJP cadres to safeguard democracy and end what he called the “tyrannical rule” of the Congress government, as noted in a press release released late on Monday.
Context
A padayatra is a traditional foot march used by Indian political parties to rally public support. The Special Intensive Revision mentioned refers to a periodic audit of voter lists intended to remove duplicate or outdated entries.
