Actor Rahul Bose Responds as 2008 Film Villain Gains Unanticipated Hero Status
Reported by Abhishek Tiwari (Copy Editor) · Bollywood Hungama ·
Actor Rahul Bose has addressed the surprising trend of audiences viewing Kay Kay Menon's antagonist character in the 2008 film Shaurya as a hero. Menon played Brigadier Rudra Pratap Singh in the movie, delivering a climactic monologue that many social media users and critics now view as hate speech and deeply problematic. Bose played the defence lawyer in the film who brought the villain to justice. In an exclusive interview, Bose stated that while societal values shift over time, his own core principles of love and non-violence remain entirely unchanged. He compared changing societal trends to conflicting health advice about whether tomatoes are good or bad for the body, emphasizing the importance of staying true to oneself amidst shifting external norms.
Future Projects
Aside from reflecting on his past work, Bose confirmed that he is currently writing a brand-new film. The project is an action movie featuring plenty of humour, which he describes as a mass-market film of a kind India has never seen before. Bose previously directed Everybody Says I'm Fine in 2001 and Poorna in 2017.
Context
Actors often face public curiosity when older cinematic villains are re-evaluated by modern internet audiences through a different cultural lens. Such discussions highlight how changing political and social contexts can completely alter the public interpretation of classic fictional media characters over time.
