Dubai Kalarikkal Club Hosts State Formation Day Celebrations and Vidyarambham

The Kalarikkal Club in Dubai recently hosted a special event to mark Kerala Formation Day alongside Vidyarambham ceremonies.

Event Highlights

The gathering brought together numerous Kalaripayattu students, parents, and trainers. The programme featured a traditional martial arts demonstration, the distribution of kacha for new students, Vidyarambham ceremonies for trainers, and general celebrations for Kerala Formation Day. The event highlighted Kerala's cultural heritage alongside the traditional guru-shisya relationship of Kalaripayattu.

Organisation Details

Operating under the leadership of Dr. Rahees Gurukkal, the club aims to preserve the traditions of Kerala's native martial art on foreign soil. The organisation runs across three training centres and currently has over 600 students, marking it as the first Kalaripayattu training centre established in Dubai. Saneesh delivered the welcome speech at the event, while Dr. Rahees Gurukkal shared the Kerala Formation Day message alongside specific advice and instructions for the audience. Vishnu and Dileep extended their greetings during the proceedings.

Performances and Honours

Sharath, Shyam, and Anoop performed a Keli presentation that brought excitement and entertainment to the gathering. Sumod and Jayadeep received special honours during the ceremony.

Context

Kalaripayattu is widely recognised as one of the oldest martial arts traditions in the world, originating from the southern Indian state of Kerala. Overseas cultural and martial arts clubs often use traditional milestone events like Kerala Formation Day to connect expatriate youth with their heritage.
