The upcoming Hindi drama Last Man in Tower will launch on the streaming platform Zee 5 on November 6, 2026. Ben Rekhi serves as the director for the project, while Rana Daggubati's company Spirit Media handles production duties. The narrative is adapted from a novel of the same title written by Aravind Adiga, with the screenplay penned by Sooni Taraporevala.
Plot and Cast
The story takes place inside a Mumbai apartment building where a planned reconstruction project creates deep divisions among the people living there. Actor Manoj Bajpayee portrays Yogesh Mishra, a retired teacher of physics who chooses to stay put in his home even though every other resident agrees to take a cash payout from the builder. Boman Irani stars as Dharmen Shah, the real estate developer pushing to complete the demolition and building work. Meanwhile, Divya Dutta plays Sangita Puri, a mother whose hopes for a better future for her child with special needs lead her into direct opposition with the stubborn teacher.
Cast Statements
Manoj Bajpayee mentioned that the grey shades of his role attracted him to the project, noting that the plot makes viewers think about whether his character acts correctly or not. Divya Dutta shared that the script portrays human actions without painting people as purely good or bad, allowing watchers to understand the background and pressure behind her aggressive character. Director Ben Rekhi praised the collaboration among the actors and crew, emphasizing that the project brings together two major film stars, Manoj Bajpayee and Boman Irani, for their first joint screen appearance. Producer Rana Daggubati added that the movie focuses on personal attachment and the difficult decisions people face during major life changes.
Context
Urban housing society redevelopment is a common occurrence in fast-growing metropolitan areas like Mumbai, where older structures frequently make way for modern high-rises. These projects often spark intense debate as long-term residents weigh the financial benefits of modern housing against the emotional value of their old neighborhoods and community ties.
