Elderly couple severely injured when a Hyundai Creta struck them from behind in Kirti Nagar, west Delhi, on Friday morning. The 79‑year‑old man, Dayanand Tangra, and his 71‑year‑old wife, Kusum Tangra, were returning home after a walk when the collision occurred near Arya Samaj Mandir at about 9.30 am. CCTV footage captured the car turning left, veering into the pair and sending them airborne; the woman landed near an electric pole, the man was thrown a few feet away. The driver, a 49‑year‑old woman identified as Navleen Kaur, exited the vehicle, rushed to the injured man and stayed on the scene for roughly half a minute before driving off, leaving the couple unattended. Bystanders later helped the victims. Police later located and arrested Kaur, also a homemaker, and seized the car. Dayanand Tangra, who runs a footwear‑sole factory, suffered a serious head injury; Kusum Tangra, a homemaker, sustained injuries to the rear of her body. Both were taken to a private hospital for treatment. Their two daughters live in the United States. Deputy commissioner of police for the western zone, Hareshwar V. Swami, said the case was registered under section 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for rash driving causing hurt and endangering life. The offending vehicle has been impounded.
