Four women died and seven other people sustained injuries when a private travels bus overturned on the Ananthagiri Ghat Road in Vikarabad district. According to local accounts, a group of 54 people boarded the bus from Kesaram near Patancheru in Sangareddy district to travel to Chinthakunta in Dharur mandal of Vikarabad district for a funeral. The vehicle veered off the road and flipped over while descending from the Ananthagiri hills. Emergency responders shifted the injured to nearby hospitals, where the condition of two people is reported to be critical. Vikarabad District Collector Deepak Tiwari visited the accident site and gave instructions to officials regarding rescue operations. Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed shock over the accident on the Ananthagiri Ghat road. He conveyed deep condolences to the families of the deceased and directed officials to ensure the injured receive better medical treatment. Meanwhile, according to Namasthe Telangana, former MLA Dr. Methuku Anand visited the injured undergoing treatment at the hospital. He demanded that the government immediately provide financial help to the affected families, alleging that the Congress government's negligence regarding the fitness of private travel vehicles led to brake failure and the resulting crash. He demanded twenty-five lakh rupees from the government and another twenty-five lakh rupees from the private travels management for the families of those who died. He also called for ten lakh rupees in compensation for severely injured victims and asked the government to fully cover medical expenses for those receiving treatment in private hospitals rather than government facilities.
Context
Ghat roads in hilly terrains often present challenging driving conditions due to steep downward slopes and sharp turns. Vehicle safety checks and fitness standards remain critical factors for heavy transport vehicles operating on such routes. Local authorities and political leaders frequently step in to review rescue operations and demand compensation following major road accidents.
