Reported by Siddharth Deshmukh (Staff Writer) · ABC News Australia ·
Diana Ross, the 82‑year‑old Motown legend, will headline a one‑off concert in Sydney on March 5, her first Australian appearance since 2006. The show is part of the Sydney Summertime concert series and will take place in Centennial Park during Mardi Gras weekend. British dance duo Groove Armada will open the event with a DJ set. General admission tickets become available on November 11. Ross last toured Australia in 2006, performing in Sydney and Melbourne and attending the Melbourne Cup Chairman’s Dinner. Over six decades she has shaped popular music, first as the frontwoman of The Supremes, delivering hits like “Where Did Our Love Go” and “Baby Love,” then as a solo artist with tracks such as “I’m Coming Out,” “Upside Down,” and “Endless Love.” Her influence is cited by stars including Beyoncé and Michael Jackson. She was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with The Supremes, received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama in 2016. Recent tours have blended Supremes classics, solo hits, and songs from her 2021 album “Thank You.”
Context
The Mardi Gras weekend draws large crowds to Sydney’s cultural calendar, and the Sydney Summertime series showcases international stars in open‑air venues. Ross’s return highlights the lasting appeal of classic soul and pop acts to new generations.
