Hyderabad water board asks residents to use PAANI app to report waste
Reported by Sneha Patil (Staff Writer) · The Hindu - National ·
The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board has asked more people to help save water by using the PAANI mobile app. As of Wednesday, 437 people had signed up as volunteers through the board website. Any person can register to be a save water volunteer on the official board website and then download the PAANI app from the Google Play Store. The app lets users spot and report cases of drinking water misuse or wastage near them. People can report problems like using drinking water to wash floors or cars, or water tanks that are overflowing. Officials will visit the spot to check the report and take action after they confirm a violation. The board keeps the names of all volunteers hidden so their identity stays safe. The board has asked people living in every colony, apartment, gated community, and housing area to come forward as water warriors.
Context
Civic water boards often use public reporting tools to help find leaks and stop everyday water wastage in growing cities. Getting residents involved allows local authorities to act faster on water misuse than they could through regular checks alone.
