Congress Slams BJP Over Fake Attendance Fraud in VB-G RAM G Scheme
Reported by Imran Qureshi (Staff Writer) · The Hindu - National ·
The Congress party has strongly criticized the BJP over reported cases of fake attendance within the VB-G RAM G scheme.
Fake Attendance Cases
Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh stated that a major case of fake attendance under the VB-G RAM G scheme first came to light in Gorakhpur. After the party raised the issue, the government issued a clarification. Now, a similar case has surfaced in Sant Kabir Nagar district. Mr. Ramesh pointed out that cases of recording fake attendance using clone apps are repeatedly being exposed, calling it a serious matter. He claimed that clone apps resembling the official National Mobile Monitoring System app are being used to mark mass attendance with photos stored on mobile phones.
Party Allegations
Mr. Ramesh questioned how many more sins the BJP intended to commit in the name of Lord Ram. He referred to earlier controversies, including a Ram temple donation theft case and alleged assaults on the right to 100 days of employment. He described the situation as state-sponsored plunder of the poor, corruption, and a betrayal of faith.
Context
The Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act, or VB-G RAM G Act, came into force across India on July 1. It replaced the two-decade-old Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, which was introduced by the Congress-led UPA government.
