Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke on the telephone with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday to discuss the destruction left by Cyclones Arnab and Murasu. Both storms struck the state within a single week.

Damage Report

Mr. Naidu explained to the Prime Minister that heavy rain and strong winds caused massive losses for local farmers. The storms also wrecked roads, electricity poles, and other key infrastructure. Following the talks, the Chief Minister asked the Central government for proper financial help to manage the crisis.

Central Response

Prime Minister Modi praised the state government for its quick response and thanked Mr. Naidu for staying alert to protect residents. Earlier, the state sent a formal letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah asking for ₹4,563 crore as immediate aid specifically for Cyclone Arnab. Officials also calculated an early estimate of ₹343 crore in losses caused by Cyclone Murasu.

Context
