Launch and Price
Mercedes-Benz India has launched the new Electric GLC 400 4MATIC at an ex-showroom price of Rs 78.50 lakh. The vehicle was first unveiled in September 2025. Local assembly has started at the company facility in Chakan near Pune, where the first unit has already rolled off the production line. Customer deliveries are set to start in mid-November 2026.
Performance and Charging
The SUV features a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup that puts out 360 kW of power and 800 Nm of torque. It accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds. A 94 kWh battery provides a claimed WLTP driving range of up to 711 km. The model uses an 800-volt electrical system that allows DC fast charging up to 330 kW. Under best conditions, this allows drivers to add up to 303 km of range in just 10 minutes, though actual speeds depend on charger power, battery temperature, and current charge level.
Features and Technology
Inside the cabin, the vehicle comes with a 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen running on the Mercedes-Benz Operating System, or MB.OS. This system handles connected features, smart navigation, driver aids, over-the-air updates, and user customization. The exterior features an illuminated grille with 942 pixels, while the interior includes a SKY CONTROL panoramic roof with glowing stars. The maker also uses recycled materials and lower-carbon items in its build.
Manufacturing and Investments
The Chakan plant builds the electric SUV on the same flexible production line used for petrol and diesel models, letting the factory handle mixed powertrains. Mercedes-Benz India added an extra Rs 200 crore investment in 2026 for factory operations, new models, and digital upgrades, bringing its total investment in the country to Rs 3,200 crore. The plant currently runs over 15 live artificial intelligence projects for quality checks, supply chains, and training, using tools like camera-based checks.
Customer Options and Context
Buyers can choose MB.CHARGE public charging credits instead of a free home AC wallbox charger, helping those who may not have a suitable home setup. The company noted more than 550 expressions of interest in the first 36 hours after registrations opened, though these are early signs of interest rather than firm bookings. The standard fuel-driven GLC came to India in 2016 and has sold to nearly 22,000 buyers, with the new electric version now expanding the lineup.
Context
Luxury car brands are steadily expanding their electric vehicle portfolios in India as local assembly helps manage import costs and pricing. Setting up flexible production lines allows manufacturers to switch between fuel engines and electric motors based on market demand. Public charging credits offer flexibility for buyers who live in apartments or places where home charging units are difficult to install.
