Reported by Faizan Khan (Staff Writer) · The Hindu - National ·
What Happened
Police in Bengaluru arrested a 45-year-old cart-manufacturing unit owner named Anandraj for allegedly beating his 24-year-old employee, Kiran, to death with a cricket bat and an iron pipe on Tuesday afternoon. The accused, who is originally from Tamil Nadu, ran his business on Kogilu Road near Kogilu Cross in Yelahanka and employed Kiran, a native of Keralam, for the past few years. Anandraj allegedly caught Kiran with his elder daughter in a compromising position at their house after returning early from a trip they had claimed was to Tamil Nadu.
The Assault
Upon finding them together, Anandraj sent his daughter away to a relative's house in Chickballapur and locked Kiran inside the home before launching the severe assault. Kiran suffered heavy injuries to his hands, legs, and abdomen until he collapsed unconscious on the floor. The employer then loaded the victim into an autorickshaw and rushed him to a nearby hospital, where the attending doctors declared him brought dead. Hospital staff immediately raised a medico-legal case alert that prompted local police officers to arrive at the facility and launch a formal murder investigation.
Context
Police officials have stated that they are currently verifying the age of the daughter involved in the incident. Crimes of passion and vigilante violence in domestic disputes are treated with severe legal consequences under Indian criminal law, with law enforcement agencies relying on medical evidence and hospital alerts to track suspicious deaths.
