Astronauts get space station screening of box-office hit documentary
Reported by Varun Krishnan (Senior Writer) · TechCrunch ·
Astronauts aboard the International Space Station will watch the Elizabeth Holmes documentary "You Can See Everything" before it even opens in several major European countries. Film company A24 shared on Instagram that it approved a request from NASA to screen the movie in low-Earth orbit. Directed by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim, the documentary first launched in North America with a limited theater release and quickly climbed to number one at the box office. Sony Pictures holds the rights to release the film in areas like Germany, Latin America, and South Korea, but has not shared its schedule yet. Meanwhile, audiences in the U.K. must wait until November 20 for a release, and viewers in France will get it on December 30.
Context
The International Space Station orbits Earth at a low altitude where crew members live and carry out scientific experiments for months at a time. Cultural and entertainment media are routinely sent up to help astronauts relax during their downtime away from home. Documentaries about high-profile business scandals often draw wide public and media interest due to the scale of the events they cover.
