Actor Sanjay Dutt has issued a public clarification on his X account following social media backlash over comments he made on the talk show Shekhar Tonite. Appearing on the Gandhi Jayanti episode hosted by actor Shekhar Suman, Dutt stated that he no longer feels the same sense of peace in India as he once did.

Clarification And Context

Addressing the criticism on Sunday evening, Dutt explained that his remarks were part of a scripted conversation meant to be light-hearted and humorous. He compared the spirit of his comments to the satire and humor found in films like Munna Bhai and the concept of 'Gandhigiri'. He stated that it was never his intention to hurt, offend, or disrespect any individual, community, or institution, and that his words were interpreted outside their intended context. During the show, he had also praised Indians as lovely, large-hearted, and hospitable people, while adding a prayer to Shivji for those peaceful days to return soon.

Prime Minister Act

In another segment of the program, Dutt was asked to imagine himself as the Prime Minister for five minutes and deliver a monologue in his Munna Bhai style. He joked about not going abroad to celebrate and staying among the people to maintain a connection. Outside of this appearance, Dutt holds a 10-year UAE Golden Visa, with his wife Maanayata and twins Shahraan and Iqra living in Dubai while he splits his work time between Mumbai and Dubai. On the work front, he was last seen in the political drama Aakhri Sawal in May.

Context

Celebrity remarks made on talk shows are frequently scrutinized on social media platforms, leading public figures to issue statements on social media to clear up misunderstandings. Actors often draw on popular cinematic personas during such appearances to entertain viewers. Public figures commonly split their time between India and international residences for work and family reasons.
