Financial Results
V2 Retail shares slumped over nineteen percent on Monday, October 5, after the value-fashion retailer released its second-quarter business update for financial year 2027. The company reported a 28.4 percent year-on-year increase in standalone revenue to 905 crore rupees during the quarter. However, same-store sales growth slowed to 0.5 percent year-on-year, compared with a much stronger 7.5 percent growth recorded in the previous quarter.
Store Expansion
Monthly sales per square foot stood at 700 rupees in the second quarter, lower than the 886 rupees reported in the first quarter. The company explained that the quarter did not include the Navratri and Durga Puja festive period, while a significant portion of its store network is still in the ramp-up phase. Out of its 427 total stores, 106 were opened during the first half of the financial year. V2 Retail added 49 new stores and closed three stores during the second quarter alone, expanding its retail footprint to about 46.28 lakh square feet while continuing to focus on Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets across India.
Market Reaction
The stock opened at 182.15 rupees apiece on the Bombay Stock Exchange, touching an intraday high of 185 rupees and a low of 162.55 rupees per share. Sudeep Shah, Vice President of Technical and Derivatives Research at SBI Securities, noted that the stock slipped below its 100-week exponential moving average for the first time since June 2023. He added that the stock has been in a distribution phase, placing immediate support between 155 and 150 rupees.
Context
Retail companies often experience slower sales growth during quarters that miss major festive shopping periods like Navratri and Durga Puja. Rapid store expansion also puts temporary pressure on average sales per square foot because newly opened outlets take time to reach full operating capacity. Market analysts closely monitor these retail indicators to judge consumer demand and the long-term health of expanding retail chains.
