Campus Launch

The University of Western Australia has received final approval from the University Grants Commission to open its new international branch campus in Chennai. Orientation for students will begin on October 5, and regular classes are scheduled to start on October 19. The facility spans 70,000 square feet on the seventh floor of One National Park on Velachery Main Road.

Courses Offered

The Chennai campus will provide undergraduate degrees in business management, computer science, data science, and advanced computer science with artificial intelligence. Postgraduate options will include a Master of Information Technology and a Master of Business Administration. This is the second Indian campus for the university, following its Mumbai location that opened in September 2026.

Context

Foreign universities are increasingly setting up branch campuses across India under recent regulatory frameworks introduced by the University Grants Commission. Several institutions from Australia, the UK, and other countries have established or received approval for campuses in cities like Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Chennai. This trend aims to give students local access to international higher education degrees.
