Network and Storage Plans
The approved plan is officially called the Green Energy Corridor Phase-III. A large portion of the funds, amounting to one point thirty-six lakh crore rupees, is set aside for building intra-state transmission systems. Another fifty thousand crore rupees is dedicated to fifty gigawatt-hours of battery energy storage systems. The entire initiative aims to move clean power smoothly from states that produce a lot of electricity to cities and factories that need it.
Capacity and Demand
Official data shows that India reached two hundred sixty-three gigawatts of renewable capacity by January two thousand twenty-six. The government target is to hit five hundred gigawatts by the year two thousand thirty. Meanwhile, the International Energy Agency expects national electricity demand to grow by an average of six point four percent every year until two thousand thirty.
Context
Power generation from sun and wind often happens far away from major towns and industrial hubs, making proper transmission lines essential. Storage units help manage the natural ups and downs of solar and wind generation when weather conditions change.
