Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali and actor Alia Bhatt are reportedly planning to revive their shelved movie Inshallah after they finish working on their current project, Love And War. The film was first announced in 2019 with Alia Bhatt and Salman Khan in the lead roles, but it was dropped after Salman Khan stepped away right before filming was set to start. Following that delay, Bhansali made Gangubai Kathiawadi with Alia Bhatt, and she won the National Award for Best Actress for her performance.

Reworking The Film

While the basic storyline of Inshallah will stay the same, the makers plan to rewrite the material to give it a fresh feel instead of using the exact 2019 version. There were also rumors earlier this year that Shah Rukh Khan might take the male lead role. However, a source stated that no casting choices are locked yet because Bhansali wants to finish the script first. The source noted that Salman Khan is busy with a film by Raj-DK, while Shah Rukh Khan has not chosen his next project after King, and a younger actor might also be considered for the part. Meanwhile, Love And War stars Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor, and Vicky Kaushal, with character posters recently released and a scheduled theatre release date of January 21, 2026.

Context

Filmmakers often revisit older scripts with a fresh perspective after completing other projects, especially when previous creative partnerships have proven successful. Bollywood production timelines frequently shift as major stars balance multiple movie schedules and filmmakers focus on locking scripts before finalizing their casts.
