Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 trailer unveils new foes and driver comeback

The two‑minute trailer for Nelson Dilipkumar’s sequel Jailer 2, starring Rajinikanth, dropped on Monday, October 5, teasing the superstar’s return as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian. The clip picks up where the 2023 hit left off, showing the retired jailer now working as a driver in a remote village and enduring humiliation from people unaware of his past. Tiger is hunted by new foes, including SJ Suryah, Vidya Balan—making her Tamil debut—and Mithun Chakraborty, while familiar allies Jackie Shroff, Mohanlal and Shiva Rajkumar appear to aid him. Suraj Venjaramoodu’s character is seen searching for Tiger, and Yogi Babu provides comic relief by noting how Tiger kills people yet cleans a car as if nothing happened. The trailer also features action sequences that look larger in scale than the first film and highlights the dark‑comedy tone that Dilipkumar amplified. Sun Pictures released the trailer ten days before the film’s worldwide release on October 15, following a promotional push that included four singles from Anirudh Ravichander’s 12‑track album, notably the Nora Fatehi special “Bindaas”. Although Vijay Sethupathi confirmed his involvement in the project, he does not appear in the trailer. Jailer’s 2023 success—over Rs 600 crore worldwide and the second‑highest‑grossing Tamil movie at the time—sets high expectations for the sequel.

Context

Rajinikanth’s releases often become major box‑office events in South India, and sequels to his hits typically draw large audiences. The addition of pan‑Indian stars like Vidya Balan signals the film’s aim to attract a wider market beyond Tamil Nadu.
