GeneralDoctors at Anantapur Hospital Use Advanced System to Save Heart Attack Patient

Doctors at KIMS Saveera Hospital in Anantapur successfully treated a 60-year-old woman suffering from a severe heart attack caused by a massive blood clot blocking a major artery. The patient, R. Annapurna from Guntakal in Anantapur district, arrived at the facility showing symptoms of an acute heart attack.

Medical Findings

Medical tests, including an electrocardiogram, confirmed an inferior wall myocardial infarction, which means a heart attack affected the lower part of the heart. An emergency coronary angiogram showed that her coronary arteries were unusually enlarged, a condition called coronary artery ectasia. The right coronary artery, a major blood vessel that supplies the heart, was completely blocked by a large blood clot.

Treatment

The medical team turned to an advanced mechanical thrombectomy technique using the CATRx catheter and the Penumbra aspiration thrombectomy system after normal clot-removal methods did not restore enough blood flow. They performed repeated aspiration to clear the extensive clot from the vessel. After removing the blockage, the team carried out balloon angioplasty and placed two coronary stents in the affected segment to keep the blood flowing.

Context

Medical procedures like mechanical thrombectomy are vital when standard treatments fail to clear severe blood vessel blockages during cardiac emergencies. Advanced catheter technologies allow doctors to remove large clots directly from the heart's arteries with high precision.
