Reported by Tanvi Pillai (Section Editor) · The Hindu - National ·
An explosion damaged the Anupgarh-Suratgarh railway track in the Sriganganagar district of northern Rajasthan on Tuesday night, November 3, 2026, leading to a multi-agency probe into suspected sabotage.
What Happened
The blast took place near 50 GB village. A passenger train had crossed this section only 45 minutes before the incident occurred. The explosion broke two concrete railway sleepers under the tracks, knocked out the track clips, and left a two-foot-deep crater in the ground. Villagers living about 200 metres away heard the loud noise and alerted the police.
Investigation
Following the incident, the North-Western Railway cancelled four train services on the route on Wednesday as a safety measure. Forensic experts gathered samples from the location, while security teams checked the strength of the blast and the type of explosive materials used. Sriganganagar Superintendent of Police Harishankar Yadav stated that teams from the National Investigation Agency and the Anti-Terrorism Squad joined the local police investigation. Authorities noted that the exact nature of the explosion will be confirmed after the forensic report comes in.
Context
Railway tracks are vital public infrastructure, and any intentional damage to them poses a direct threat to public safety and passenger lives. Security agencies treat incidents of unexplained explosions on transport networks with high priority to prevent potential disasters.
