A nine‑year‑old girl died after collapsing in her Class 3 classroom at a Mayur Vihar school in east Delhi on Wednesday morning. Police filed a case under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and examined CCTV to reconstruct the event. The fall happened at about 9:20 a.m., just after the child returned from a sports period and went down while standing before her teacher, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East District) Rajeev Kumar said. A control‑room call was recorded at roughly 9:52 a.m.; staff rushed her first to Vimla Devi Hospital and then to Malik Radix Health Care in Nirman Vihar, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. CCTV shows the pupil trying to reach her teacher, then suddenly collapsing; the teacher promptly moved to support her and attempted to seat her, while classmates gathered and some ran to alert school officials. The family alleges the child was not given immediate CPR, but police point out the footage records swift assistance by the teacher. Principal Dr Bhavna said the hospital diagnosed cardiac arrest and that school officials informed the parents. The school, situated in the Mayur Vihar residential area, follows Delhi education department safety guidelines.
Context
Sudden cardiac arrest can affect children without warning, and schools are urged to have basic emergency response plans and trained staff to handle such crises.
