Remnants of Severe Cyclonic Storm Murasu will keep parts of South India under showers on Thursday, November 5, as the system moves northward and weakens into a low‑pressure area. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts isolated to scattered rain over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Rayalaseema and south interior Karnataka. Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam are also slated for showers, with isolated heavy rain possible in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal and south interior Karnataka. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds may accompany the rain in coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema and south interior Karnataka. Central and eastern regions could see unsettled weather: Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh may get isolated to scattered rain, while Odisha may experience thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds. No significant activity is forecast for north‑western, western or north‑eastern India this week. In Delhi‑NCR, skies will be mainly clear with occasional morning mist or shallow fog. Maximum temperature will stay between 27 °C and 29 °C, minimum between 15 °C and 17 °C. Winds will blow from the north‑west at up to 15 km/h in the morning, rising to about 20 km/h in the afternoon before easing in the evening. The lack of rain means pollution levels are likely to stay high as Diwali approaches.

Context

The remnants of a cyclone often linger as a weak depression, bringing rain to coastal areas while inland regions stay dry. Delhi’s clear weather this week is typical when no major system passes over the capital.
