Film Screening
Just two days before its theatrical release, the makers of Ramayana hosted a special screening for the film industry, drawing a host of celebrities. Ranbir Kapoor, who stars as Lord Rama in the film, wore a maroon kurta with denim jeans and black chelsea boots. Alia Bhatt arrived hand-in-hand with Ranbir's mother, Neetu Kapoor. Bhatt wore a sea-green saree with a sleeveless blouse, while Neetu Kapoor chose a chocolate-brown draped outfit. Director Nitesh Tiwari attended in a navy bandhgala alongside his wife Ashwiny Tiwari, who wore a lime-green saree.
Cast and Guests
Other notable attendees included Ravi Dubey, who plays Lakshman and touched Sunny Deol's feet for blessings before the screening. Deol stars as Hanuman in the project. Kunal Kapoor, who plays Indra, also attended alongside producer Namit Malhotra and his wife. Rakul Preet Singh arrived in a navy blue three-piece suit with her husband Jackky Bhagnani. Additional guests included Lara Dutta, Kajal Aggarwal, Badshah, Mahesh Kothare, Saurabh Sachdeva, Marzi, Shaimak Davar, Sharad Kelkar, and Bhushan Kumar.
World Premiere and Release
The film previously had its world premiere in Los Angeles on October 27, where it received mixed reactions. Viewers praised the visual effects, production design, action sequences, and the performances of Ranbir Kapoor and Yash as Ravana, with some comparing its scale to The Lord of the Rings. However, critics felt the visual grandeur affected the emotional depth and storytelling, while the music also drew a mixed response regarding its spiritual essence. Ramayana is a two-part adaptation featuring Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita, Lara Dutta as Queen Kaikeyi, Arun Govil as King Dashrath, and Kajal Aggarwal as Mandodari. Produced by Namit Malhotra and Yash, the movie features music by Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman and releases worldwide on November 5, 2026, in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam.
Context
High-profile special screenings are a common industry tradition in Mumbai to build early momentum and word-of-mouth buzz among film fraternity members right before a major cinematic release. Big-budget mythological adaptations of Indian epics often draw intense public interest due to their massive scale, extensive ensemble casts, and high expectations surrounding visual effects and musical scores.
