CM C. Joseph Vijay Moves Office to Renovated “Pamani Illam” Bungalow
Reported by Arjun Sethi (Fact-Checker) · The Hindu - National ·
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay began conducting official business from the newly renovated ‘Pamani Illam’ bungalow on Greenways Road on Thursday. The bungalow, part of the Podhigai Compound, was handed over by the Public Works Department after a three‑month overhaul. Vijay spent nearly three hours inside the camp office, holding meetings and signing papers. The 5,000‑sq‑ft facility now houses meeting rooms for ministers and officials and will receive dignitaries on official visits. Earlier, the chief minister had worked from the main block of Fort St. George while commuting from his Neelankarai home, about 18 km away, and occasionally used a flat in Pattinapakkam. Plans are also in place to shift his Secretariat office to the 10th floor of Namakkal Kavignar Maligai. The bungalow was previously the residence of former Chief Secretary V. Irai Anbu.
Context
The move gives the chief minister a dedicated space close to the city centre, reducing travel time and allowing quicker coordination with ministers. It also reflects the government’s effort to modernise its administrative facilities.
