Police Investigation

Delhi Police questioned two leaders from the Cockroach Janta Party on Thursday over a protest held at Jantar Mantar last year. Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka appeared before the Crime Branch office in Rajouri Garden around 11 am for questioning.

The Protest Incident

The police registered two separate FIRs at the Connaught Place and Parliament Street police stations regarding the October 13 incident. CJP members allegedly entered the denotified protest site at Jantar Mantar, staged a demonstration, and unfurled the national flag in violation of restrictions. Authorities later transferred both cases to the Crime Branch for a detailed investigation.

Summons and Appearance

Investigators had previously summoned both leaders to join the inquiry. They sought extra time earlier and did not show up on those dates before finally appearing on Thursday.

Context

Jantar Mantar in New Delhi serves as a historic site for public demonstrations, though local authorities enforce strict security and rule frameworks regarding gatherings in the area. Police routinely investigate unauthorized protests or actions taken at restricted public spaces to maintain law and order.
