Reported by Rituparna Sen (Section Editor) · The Hindu - National ·
Delhi Police brought a 38-year-old man wanted in a rape case back to India from Abu Dhabi on Wednesday, November 4, 2026. This operation involved coordinated work between the Delhi Police, Interpol, the Central Bureau of Investigation, and the ministries of Home Affairs and External Affairs. Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Devesh Srivastava shared these details at a press conference on Thursday, November 5, 2026.
Case Background
The accused is Sajeer Palli, a native of Kerala. Police stated the case goes back to October 2025. The accused allegedly sexually assaulted a woman at a hotel in the Karol Bagh area after an office gathering. The woman worked with him at a private company. After the company received a complaint, Palli fled to Abu Dhabi on January 5. Authorities at the Karol Bagh police station registered a case in February and declared him a proclaimed offender in July. Police then used a Red Corner Notice to help trace and arrest him through international law enforcement cooperation, leading to his arrest in Abu Dhabi before his return to Delhi.
Context
A Red Corner Notice is a request to law enforcement worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest a person pending extradition or similar legal action. Interpol manages these notices upon the request of a member country. Law enforcement agencies use international police cooperation channels to bring back fugitives who flee abroad to escape criminal charges.
