Confirmed by a second source: Bollywood Hungama
Authors and defence journalists Shiv Aroor and Rahul Singh have ended their formal association with the upcoming Salman Khan film 'Maatrubhumi', which was previously titled 'Battle of Galwan'. Released on November 5, their joint statement explained that the project has evolved and moved past the account of the June 2020 Galwan Valley clash featured in their book series, 'India's Most Fearless', which initially brought them on board. Originally, the film was based on a chapter from 'India's Most Fearless 3', published in 2022, documenting the hand-to-hand confrontation where Colonel Bikumalla Santosh Babu and 19 other Indian soldiers lost their lives. Director Apoorva Lakhia bought the rights to this chapter in 2023, and Aroor was also credited for the story alongside Suresh Nair. In their statement, Aroor and Singh thanked Salman Khan, Lakhia, and the crew for the opportunity, wishing the team success as their vision hits the screen.
Trailer And Release
According to Bollywood Hungama, this development arrives just as the 4-minute-and-43-second trailer for the film secured a U/A 16+ certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification on November 4, ahead of its expected release on November 6. The theatrical release date is still unconfirmed, with makers reportedly considering November 20 and December 11.
Context
Films based on recent military history often face significant script changes during production as directors balance factual accounts with cinematic storytelling. Such creative shifts can sometimes lead to original authors or consultants parting ways with the project before it reaches theatres.
